Daniel Lanois - Producer, Musician and Sound Explorer - A powerful influence

Daniel Lanois - AcadieThe brilliant, the one and only Daniel Lanois.

Producer, Musician and Sound Explorer, this one man has influenced my work and sense of musical possibility more than any other artist.

Apart from his own musical works (which are fantastic) his list of production credits are awesome. Bob Dylan, U2, Peter Gabriel, The Neville Brothers, Robbie Robertson, Emmylou Harris and Brian Eno are just a few of the people that have created their best work (in my opinion) with him as their production guide. Read a great interview with Daniel Lanois here. Or see more to view some videos. Continue Reading »

Global Warming framed in terms of risk management

proof-of-global-warming.jpgThis is the best explanation I have ever heard for the case of Global Warming.

Firstly, hes a scientist, with a sense of humor (even if its a little cheesy), and secondly its almost impossible to argue against his logic (even though I’m sure plenty of people would try).

Why? Because if you weigh up all the possibilities and the risk that is associated with each one the conclusion is very clear. Heres the movie… Continue Reading »

Inspirational Politics - Prime Minister Kevin Rudd says Sorry

Those 2 words never go together do they? Inspiration and Politics.

prime-minister-kevin-rudd-says-sorry.jpgMost of the words are more like, depressing, boring, bickering, even hate and loathing frequently enter into it. So what would be cause for inspiration?

Well Humility for one thing.

And the character to acknowledge an intergenerational wrong. Most colonial governments (and settlers) have a list of cruelties as long as 10 arms perpetrated on the indigenous people of a land. In our case in Australia, its the Aborigines. A proud, deep people that have until the last 10 years been relegated to the too hard basket. Continue Reading »

Naomi Wolf - a powerful talk about fascism and democracy

naomi-wolf.jpgI really follow the news quite closely, although in these days of the information age you can choose your source rather than just get it all from the television or from newspapers.

I have found YouTube to be a great place to get a broader perspective on the news. The pure volume and choice can be daunting though and it comes down to the search terms you use as well as getting good leads from friends. Continue Reading »

Peter Gabriel talks about Witness program and Human Rights

Peter GabrielPeter Gabriel has been one of my biggest influences, not only musically but also in his sense of social awareness. In this talk from Ted.com he gives some insight into his childhood and also what brought him to care more about human rights.

Witness is a program that donates video cameras to people in oppressed countries, giving them the chance to record human rights violations that cannot be disputed. Even more recently in places like Burma the portable mobile phone has made this powerful political tool even more accessible. To learn more about Witness go to http://witness.org Continue Reading »

Recording History - Photo Gallery

I just found a whole lot of JPGs of some albums that I had recorded over the years as a sound engineer in Maleny. This is only a fraction of the albums that I have helped people to record and produce, not including the ones on the record label, all of which I was involved in.

As I find new ones and scan them in will upload them.

Seeing as I have moved on to more promotion and marketing of music (and sometime performing too!) this is very much a retrospective thing for me too.

If you click on the thumbnails you will get a larger image as well as a rave about the project. Continue Reading »

Visionary artwork set to lush relaxation music

It’s been a fun and creative few weeks.

galaxylight.jpgJust finished creating a slide show with an artist called Nicole Mizoguchi. We first chatted on MySpace and I put forward the idea of working together, combining our music and her artwork. I had already seen her work and was very impressed.

Heres a look at one of her pieces. Click on the thumbnail to see a bigger version. To find out more about Nicole go to www.nicolemiz.com

So we created a wonderful slide show with some music from the album “Embrace The Moment”. To listen to this album click here.

Visionary art by Nicole Mizoguchi

Enjoy! I certainly did.

Teenage Affluenza - the contrast of 1st and 3rd world

Sometimes you find something that captures an idea and communicates so well that you just have to share it. This is such a video I found on YouTube.

I live in Australia, one of the wealthiest countries in the world both in terms of resources, environment and lifestyle. We have our share of problem, one of which is lack of gratitude. We get used to our lives and quickly forget what we have and how to be thankful. Anyway this video shows this contrast between first and third world countries in a humorous way.
