Naomi Wolf - a powerful talk about fascism and democracy

naomi-wolf.jpgI really follow the news quite closely, although in these days of the information age you can choose your source rather than just get it all from the television or from newspapers.

I have found YouTube to be a great place to get a broader perspective on the news. The pure volume and choice can be daunting though and it comes down to the search terms you use as well as getting good leads from friends. Continue Reading »

Peter Gabriel talks about Witness program and Human Rights

Peter GabrielPeter Gabriel has been one of my biggest influences, not only musically but also in his sense of social awareness. In this talk from Ted.com he gives some insight into his childhood and also what brought him to care more about human rights.

Witness is a program that donates video cameras to people in oppressed countries, giving them the chance to record human rights violations that cannot be disputed. Even more recently in places like Burma the portable mobile phone has made this powerful political tool even more accessible. To learn more about Witness go to http://witness.org Continue Reading »

The Best of Hubble - Slideshow

I am an admirer of Hubble and the mind blowing images that it takes of our universe. Free from the distortion of the Earths atmosphere it reaches into the far reaches of space with its eye and gives us a chance to experience just how fantastical this One Song (Universe) is.

This is a selection of some of the best Hubble images we could find set to a beautiful soundtrack written by my brilliant musical brother, Jai. The song is called “Scene 31″ from the album Where To Land?  To hear more of this music, click here.

Recording History - Photo Gallery

I just found a whole lot of JPGs of some albums that I had recorded over the years as a sound engineer in Maleny. This is only a fraction of the albums that I have helped people to record and produce, not including the ones on the record label, all of which I was involved in.

As I find new ones and scan them in will upload them.

Seeing as I have moved on to more promotion and marketing of music (and sometime performing too!) this is very much a retrospective thing for me too.

If you click on the thumbnails you will get a larger image as well as a rave about the project. Continue Reading »

Visionary artwork set to lush relaxation music

It’s been a fun and creative few weeks.

galaxylight.jpgJust finished creating a slide show with an artist called Nicole Mizoguchi. We first chatted on MySpace and I put forward the idea of working together, combining our music and her artwork. I had already seen her work and was very impressed.

Heres a look at one of her pieces. Click on the thumbnail to see a bigger version. To find out more about Nicole go to www.nicolemiz.com

So we created a wonderful slide show with some music from the album “Embrace The Moment”. To listen to this album click here.

Visionary art by Nicole Mizoguchi

Enjoy! I certainly did.

Teenage Affluenza - the contrast of 1st and 3rd world

Sometimes you find something that captures an idea and communicates so well that you just have to share it. This is such a video I found on YouTube.

I live in Australia, one of the wealthiest countries in the world both in terms of resources, environment and lifestyle. We have our share of problem, one of which is lack of gratitude. We get used to our lives and quickly forget what we have and how to be thankful. Anyway this video shows this contrast between first and third world countries in a humorous way.

Just in Time - Available at CDBaby Now

Album Review - Just in Time

“The music has touched my soul with its powerful and emotional vocals as he shares a part of his world, making the listener think a little differently about life. The folorn ‘Another Way’ left me in tears (maybe a little close to home), while ‘Dying of You’ and ‘Just in Time’ really crank it up with their messages of getting on with life. An album of hope and inspiration.

Reviewed in Tsunami Magazine 2005 by ROCK DIVA / 4 stars.

Firefly - Lyrics with the Music.

This is one of my favourite soundscapes on my album Just in Time. It’s called Firefly and it was one of those songs where it happened very smoothly and then I had a chance to sit back and listen to it. To my surprise it captured the feeling and setting I wanted exactly.

I used to live on a beautiful property in Maleny on the sunshine coast. It was a 35 acre piece of land with a path down into the forest eventually coming to a creek. As the light was fading and we were coming back up the path there were small groups of fireflies that used to follow us home silently. There was a quiet that I felt inside as they tracked us throught the forest that I will never forget. The sample in this song is recorded in there on a little mini disc recorder.

2 poems from deep space past

I found a lot of writing I had done a few years back and these are 2 that I liked. The song “eclipse” from the album Where to Land is composed by Zane and it works great with the words.

Inspiration - a little bit of prose

This is a piece found in the vault of days past but to me describes me now. For now. Language is such a powerful tool to evoke and express emotions. Being so focussed on techincal things at the moment I seem to have forgotten my musical roots and how great it feels to write again. A prayer for the return of inspiration.
