Drum n Bass Ramblings - short prose

(A short piece from the archives)

Drum ‘n Bass Ramblings

Im sitting here at home, is this my home? Anyway its raining. We have really needed it.

The subtle tone of chilled out drum and bass tunes wafts through the house, daring me to dance. Music to move to, whether that be dance, gardening, driving, or sensuous sex with someone groovy, it has its way with you and you will never be the same.

What can we talk about that has never been talked about I wonder? Somehow I think its all been covered and someone else has probably done it better. Well I know I have. Its up to you how much of your body you move. Free expression. What does that mean? Does it mean moving fully or is that feeling fully? Is it both?

What precipitates the state of free expression? How will I know when I have attained it? What will it feel like. I think I am too socially reactive to experience free expression and why would I want to hurt anyone anyway?? Just those who would deem vulgar acts of foul depravity on live television as acceptable at the correct hour. I think those people need it. Or at least I need to see them offended so that I remember my own desire for money and power as well.

Look I think we’ve strayed just a little from the path here. I was talking about music. The movement of the legs in tandem with the movement of the arms and the torso as well in some kind of synchronicity with the beat of the music could be called dance. Or it could be defined as the impulse to move to music followed by the self conscious attempt to do so. Of which i am still in this category.

I wonder how I look to others, and yes whether I look sexy. I also wonder if people look and think I am a professional idiot because stabbing the air as if i had a large rubber penis strapped to my leg, which would serve no use except to get stuck in the car door as I tried to exit the vehicle.

Many things in life we believe would be useful but if we had them we would soon find out they are a burden. Things like earrings that talk to you, dogs that wash themselves, TV that changes channels for you, 1 million dollars credit at David jones, and other such trinkets of modern day obsession.

One thing stands out from all the rest. Did you dance or did you watch?

I watched myself dance , but I still danced, and I dance hard. Soon I forgot about other people, and danced even harder, then I could start dancing with others again. Its actually fun to play dance with someone else (especially a great friend). You put some music on and go, one follows the other and then you swap over.

Its ok to watch now because you are over it. Fluent, ecstatic movement. Wow just the words take me there. I was about to share an intimate memory but she may be embarrassed.

Anyway, dance is a beautiful form and its happening more than we realize and it could also happen more than we realise. Think about all the movement we see in day to day life. What is socially acceptable (if there’s such a thing) depends on the context. In a club it would be normal to jump and boogey, but if you do it while crossing the street some people will think you are weird.

The people that don’t, think you are great and off you go and start a community around the whole concept. Anyone who is lost and needs something to do will jump at the chance to be institutionalized by your one dance step that you did one day while crossing the road.

Don’t laugh, they have been started over weirder ideas.

At any rate it all hinges on you. The door opens and closes depending on how open you are to not following, and not being followed.

Also it depends on how much you want to learn about yourself and how much you are ready to reveal to yourself and to others. A beautiful personal journey.

I’m lucky I have the music as well, but we all need something that accesses our creative side, and I use the word creative very generally because it often suffers from a narrow definition. Watch your definitions they confine or free your mind. Anyway enough advice, just go on as you were.

CUT!???
